Buying New When It Is Already Obsolete

Since SQL Server 2005 came out I've been limited in my developmental space, since my home PC blows which leaves my laptop for development time and a boat anchor gathering dust on my desk.  I've tried to run SQL2K5 on it but the Management Studio itself tends to barf up on me so it isn't really worth the time to try and get it all configured properly.

To alleviate the issue I'd planned on buying a dual-core Dell desktop in a couple weeks which would have given me some nice power at home for development and video production.

Well in an effort to keep me down... Intel has announced that for this holiday season they'll be releasing a 2.67 GHz quad-core chip...

So if I buy now... I'll be obsolete by Christmas.  I guess that's better than when I bought my first laptop from IBM and the prices on the dropped by $1,500 two weeks after I received mine.

And really, I think Intel is doing this just to get me...
